First quarterly price of CBAM certificates
The Carbon Boundary Adjustment Mechanism, known as CBAM, It ceased to be a future regulation. On April 7, 2026, the European Commission published the first official price of CBAM certificates corresponding to the first quarter of 2026: 75.36 euros per ton of CO₂.
The price is calculated using the weighted average of the auctions in the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). This ensures that external producers face the same carbon costs as European producers.
One aspect that many Latin American exporters still do not fully grasp is that certificates must be acquired starting in February 2027 to cover imports made during 2026.
