On May 30, 2026, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launched the beta version of EnvironmentGPT, an artificial intelligence tool trained with a selected library of scientific publications from UNEP and partner organizations.
Its goal is to provide evidence-based answers on environmental issues such as water, carbon, biodiversity, and climate, with transparency regarding the data used.
For those of us who work in corporate sustainability, this represents a clear signal: artificial intelligence is no longer just a productivity tool. It is also beginning to function as a scientific infrastructure for environmental decision-making.
