[This week we read…] Corporate sustainability and ESG reporting in Latin America

Staying informed is part of leading. This week we're sharing two articles that analyze the state of corporate sustainability and ESG reporting in Mexico and Latin America.

Mexico identifies sustainability as a business priority for 2026

The report of RSM Global It presents a relevant fact: only 15.4% of Mexican companies prioritize ESG reports, a percentage lower than the Latin American average, which reaches 26.5%.

Furthermore, the 71.8% has not yet implemented standards such as IFRS S1 and IFRS S2. These results highlight a critical gap in the region: the distance between the demands of the markets and regulatory bodies, and the actions currently being taken by medium-sized companies.

Sustainability is no longer just a communications project. It's a management project, and the time available to prepare is getting shorter.

Survey of Sustainability Reporting 2024: Executive Summary for Latin America

The report of KPMG This shows that Latin America has high levels of ESG reporting compared to other regions. However, the quality and depth of these reports are now a new requirement.

Since 2022, the number of companies reporting carbon reduction targets has increased by 51%. By 2024, 771% of the surveyed organizations were already reporting such targets.

The trend is clear: reporting is no longer enough. The next step is to move towards auditable, verifiable reports aligned with standards such as IFRS S2 and TCFD.
