Argentine mining: potential, growth and new ESG challenges

By Silvina Dalton, for DelPlata Green.

Argentina's mining potential has once again taken center stage on the national production agenda. In recent days, various indicators have highlighted the magnitude of an industry that is projected as one of the country's greatest strategic opportunities.

Among the most relevant data, it is worth noting that One out of every ten dollars that Argentina will export in 2026 will come from mining.. In addition, the following are planned USD 9 billion in exports, almost double that of 2024, along with the development of 4 simultaneous projects, in a global context where only 2 mining projects are typically launched per decade.

In addition to this, there is another key piece of information: near the 65% of Argentine territory with mining potential remains unexplored. This shows that the sector has ample room for growth, both in terms of production and technology, as well as environmental and social aspects.

Resources are insufficient: ESG management as a condition for growth

During Engineering Week 2026, organized by the Argentine Center of Engineers, it became clear that the future of Argentine mining does not depend solely on the availability of resources.

Growth in the sector also requires management capacity, predictability, social license, environmental traceability, and robust governance standards. In other words, having the resources is just the starting point.

Mining companies that want to lead this new stage must anticipate environmental, social and governance risks before they become conflicts, regulatory barriers or limitations to accessing financing.

Along this path, ESG processes allow for the organization of information, the measurement of impacts, the strengthening of decision-making, and the building of trust with communities, investors, public bodies, and strategic partners.

Technology for more traceable and sustainable mining

At DelPlata Green, we support the mining sector with technological solutions geared towards footprint measurement, the elaboration of auditable ESG reports and compensation through carbon credits on blockchain, integrating technology from ZeroCarbonOne to facilitate more accurate, verifiable, and scalable environmental management.

Argentine mining has an opportunity to demonstrate that productive development and sustainability can go hand in hand. To achieve this, it will be crucial to incorporate tools that allow for the transparent measurement, reporting, and management of impacts.
